SFM Certifications

Both of Tolko’s Sustainable Forest Management standards are endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) international. PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification organization.

Canadian Standards Association (CSA Z809)

The CSA Z809 standard is based on International criteria and is the national SFM standard of Canada. It was developed, and is maintained, under the oversight of the Canadian Standards setting organizations (CSA and SCC) and was adopted by the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers. CSA Z809 was developed largely within the context of the Canadian forests public land model and has comprehensive requirements for public involvement.

Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) program works to improve forest management across the United States and Canada through certification that promotes sustainable forest management, including measures to protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk and Forests with Exceptional Conservation Value. The SFI standard has strong acceptance both globally and in North America, allowing us to ensure our customers that Tolko wood products are from legal, responsible sources.

Environmental Management System (ISO 14001 EMS)

Tolko’s woodlands divisions are certified to the ISO 14001 EMS standard. This internationally-accepted system ensures that our forest management operations are conducted under strict rules and procedures in order to protect the environmental values of the forests that we are entrusted to manage.

Chain of Custody (CoC)

Tolko’s woodlands operations, manufacturing plants and Marketing and Sales departments are certified to the PEFC CoC standard. This provides our customers with confidence that the wood used for our forest products is verified from legally authorized and socially-acceptable sources.
