At-risk readers program gets Tolko’s support

Programming for Mission Hill Elementary’s at-risk readers just got a boost when Tolko HR manager, Ryan Johnson, presented a cheque to Colline Johnson, the school’s principal in Vernon, B.C.

“Thanks to Tolko,” says Colline, “Mission Hill will be able to purchase valuable resources targeted towards specific programming for our at-risk readers.”

One of these resources is the Leveled Literacy Intervention system – a program designed to increase literacy among children through focused, small-group instructions. On top of this, a Levelled Literacy Home Reading Lending Library has been created to encourage students to practice reading and bring home books.

“Literacy is a critical factor in improving the chances for every child’s success in life,” says Ryan.

“This fits well with Tolko’s Community Investment Strategy to support our communities and focus on youth at risk.”
