Tolko’s Community Citizen Awards celebrate employees who go above and beyond to support their communities – bringing our values to life through volunteerism, leadership, generosity and care. In recognition, the following winners will receive a donation to support a charity of their choice.

Congratulations – 2026 Community Citizen Award Winners:
- Jim Soper, Supervisor, Customer Service and Corporate Applications, Vernon Office: BC Region
Jim has made a lasting impact in the Okanagan through his support of youth sports. From helping bring minor baseball back to Enderby to growing local hockey programs, he’s created opportunities for kids to stay active and connected to their communities. Whether it’s coaching, board leadership or his support of regional initiatives, Jim continues to make sport more accessible and affordable for local families.
- Valerie Payne, Shipping Team Leader, Athabasca Mill: Prairies Region
For more than 12 years, Valerie has made it a priority to give back to the Slave Lake community. Her self-led recycling program at the mill has raised more than $40,000 in support of local charities and community organizations. In addition to fundraising, Valerie volunteers widely and supports a broad range of charitable initiatives that prioritize food security, promote youth programs and target health. Her contributions have had a positive impact in many ways.
- Jacob Hudson, Continuous Improvement, Jasper Lumber Company: US South
Like Jim, Jacob’s leadership and volunteer efforts have been directed towards supporting youth and creating access to sport. Through his work with the Carbon Hill Youth League, Jacob helps ensure children – regardless of circumstance – can participate and thrive. His support of community fundraising and charitable initiatives is commendable and encourages others to get involved and give back.
Thank you Jim, Valerie and Jacob, for living our values and your commitment to making our communities stronger.
