Supporting displaced families: Tolko to provide aid to High Level employees

VERNON, B.C. — At Tolko, we believe in supporting our employees which is why we will provide all active hourly employees (regular and spareboard), from our High Level Division, with a one-time $1000 lump sum payment to aid them during the wildfire evacuation period.

This funding will help our employees and their families until they can access emergency support, provincial government or Red Cross funding assistance, or avail of Employment Insurance.

“At our core, Tolko is about family,” says Brad Thorlakson, President and CEO. “And in tough times, family is there for each other – just as we were when employees were evacuated from Williams Lake in 2017. We have so many great people in our High Level family. They work hard and are the heart and soul of their community. We are proud to support them as they navigate this uncertain time.”

Funds will be deposited into employee’s bank accounts on Friday, May 31. Employees who have questions about the lump sum payment can email HighLevelHR@tolko.com.

Thorlakson also offered recognition to employees at High Level who have continued to work to protect the mill.

“A dedicated team has stayed behind to protect their community and the mill. Even as fire threatens their community, they are thinking about others, focusing on preserving High Level so people have homes and jobs to come home to,” says Thorlakson. “Their courage is commendable. To say thank-you seems small in light of their dedication.”
