VERNON, British Columbia: On January 30, Mr. Ivor Lundin lost his life in a tugboat incident at the Kelowna mill.
Since that time, the RCMP, WorkSafeBC, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and Tolko’s internal safety team, have been conducting investigations.
“We resumed land only operations at the mill last Friday and have been focused on supporting our employees who have been impacted by this unfortunate event,” said Troy Connolly, Senior General Manager, Lumber. “Our Employee and Family Assistance Plan representatives have been on site supporting employees; management staff have met with affected employees individually; and we have conducted crew talks with all employees as well. Our number one objective now is ensuring we can get people back to work safely while working through the investigation process.”
Mr. Connolly continued on to say: “Today, the funeral for Mr. Lundin will be held in West Kelowna and all employees who wish to attend the service will be accommodated. Mr. Lundin was a well-liked, 24-year employee of the mill. Everyone at the Kelowna operation has been deeply affected by his loss and our thoughts and sympathies remain with his family and friends.”
