Pulling together at Tolko to protect employees’ health and safety

A Message to the Community from Brad Thorlakson, Tolko’s President & CEO.

At Tolko, our number one focus is the health and safety of our employees, their families, and our communities. Now more than ever, the work we do to protect our employees is extending beyond the workplace to include all aspects of our lives with our families and our communities. Whether at work or at home, personal health and safety is of major importance. Since the company started in 1956, our values have guided us, and Tolko’s employees continue to live our principles of safety, respect, and integrity during this difficult time. We are supporting each other, taking necessary precautions, and relying on our co-workers to make the right decisions in and away from the workplace to ensure everyone’s safety.

These efforts are having a positive impact. We have been able to continue to operate safely and provide an essential service to our communities and our country. The federal government has deemed forest product manufacturing an essential service, and our products and co-products continue to play an important role in the production of critical pandemic supplies, from hygiene products to surgical masks. I’m proud of the steps we’ve taken to ensure the safety of our employees including additional cleaning, physical distancing, and following the recommendations from our provincial health authorities.

I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU. Thank you to our employees, who are committed to working safely and providing this essential service. Thank you to the families of our employees, who are balancing commitments at home and at work during this time of uncertainty. Thank you to the communities in which we operate, whose support is vital to our continued success.

It’s not business as usual, and we are working with all stakeholders to continue to operate safely. We operated with a focus on employee safety prior to these challenging conditions and we are continuing to hold to that commitment. This is a dynamic situation, and we will keep monitoring COVID-19 updates closely and adjust our operating plan as required.

We can and will get through this with everyone pulling together.
