Soda Creek employee awarded Tolko scholarship

We’re pleased to announce that Gwen Rohls, a casual employee at our Soda Creek Division was awarded a $500 Tolko scholarship in recognition of her achieving the top score at School District 27’s Heavy Metal Rocks program, held in Williams Lake May 8-11, 2019.

Now in its eighth year, 24 students in grades 11 and 12 participated in this exciting and successful program, which introduces them to a variety of jobs available in the logging, mining, and construction industries. The students learn to operate different types of heavy machinery through hands-on experience.

“This program provides an excellent opportunity for the youth in our community to experience the hands-on operation of heavy equipment in our industry as well as provide them skills in first aid, WHMIS, resume writing, and interviews,” says HR Manager Tina O’Neill. “Many of the attendees will be graduating in June and the program gives them a big leg up for prospective job opportunities.”
