Tolko’s 2022 Community Citizen Award

As part of National Volunteer Week, Tolko is proud to announce the winners of our annual Community Citizen Award. The award was created to recognize employees who contribute to the communities in which they live and work, and we’re excited to highlight the two winning employees for 2022 who have shown outstanding support for their community while reflecting Tolko’s values of respect and integrity.

  • The winner for the BC region, representing Tolko locations west of the Rockies, is Rachel Telfer, Forest Technician at Okanagan Woodlands.
  • The winner for the Prairie region, representing Tolko locations east of the Rockies, is Derek Wolfe, Millwright at High Level.

Rachel and Derek will each receive $2,500 to be donated to the charitable organization of their choice.

Highlighting the winners’ activities: Rachel Telfer

One of Rachel’s biggest impacts in her community has been her support of the Okanagan Alliance Task Force, a local forest clean-up group. She has raised funds that will help complete a documentary on the Okanagan trash dumping issue, and she is coordinating with the group to arrange for a Tolko volunteer clean-up crew. This will not only assist with trash collection in the Okanagan but will provide future opportunities for volunteerism.

At work, Rachel always makes time for her co-workers and is involved with the Social Club committee, Brand Improvement Committee, and Tolko’s Continuous Improvement process. She is known as a mentor to her peers and is always willing to lend her expertise and share her knowledge for the betterment of the group.

“I am excited to continue to spread more positivity on behalf of Tolko and honoured to have been given the opportunity to do so,” says Rachel. “I am also proud to be a part of a company that recognizes the value of giving back to the communities where we live, work and play!”

Highlighting the winners’ activities: Derek Wolfe

Derek is known for his strong work ethic, both on the job and in his volunteer role as coach of the minor hockey U10 High Level North Stars. His patience, experience, and knowledge are outstanding, and has been called the true definition of a “team player.” In his coaching role, he ensures that the kids have fun while demonstrating good sportsmanship.

Derek leads by example, and it is apparent that his motivation and dedication are qualities he carries both on and off the ice. He is a natural leader and an ambassador for Tolko. Derek is never “off duty” and is always willing to help his fellow team members. When he is not working, he is volunteering in his coaching role with equal passion and dedication. Derek is a mentor, and through his volunteer work in the community, demonstrates the true personification of what it means to be a good citizen.

Congratulations to Rachel and Derek — keep up the great work.
