#BeBoldForChange Tolko celebrates International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day was last week, but that doesn’t mean we should stop celebrating women around the world. The mom’s, aunt’s and grandmother’s that raised us, the teachers that taught us, and the strong women we work with; the women that are trying to be successful striving for excellence and are committed to being positive perhaps be a role models for daughters of their own, or other young girls in their lives.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2017 was #BeBoldForChange. Around the world, through meaningful celebration and targeted bold action, we can all be responsive and responsible leaders in creating a more gender inclusive world.

At Tolko’s Corporate office in Vernon, BC, we transformed one of our meeting rooms into Café Tolko and enjoyed some coffee, sweet treats and great conversations with fellow women in our office. Topics of conversation included the challenges experienced by women working in the forest industry; how we can improve and move toward becoming a more inclusive workplace and how we all need to be supportive and encouraging of each other.

Tolko has committed to #BeBoldForChange, and to build a workplace that encourages the attraction, retention and engagement of women as part of our overall talent strategy.

“The results of our Women in the Workplace survey tell us that we are doing some things very well but that there is also the desire and opportunity to create a more inclusive work environment,” says Heather Press, Manager of Talent. “They want a workplace that recognizes and celebrate the talents of both genders equally while providing opportunities for women to be heard and make a positive impact in the company.”

Heather indicated that work on the strategy to support the survey results is underway and there is more to come.

“We’re excited with the positive energy being generated so far and have started to develop a strong action plan that will help us attract, retain, develop and engage more women with Tolko.”
