Meadow Lake Division First Responders Met with Praise for Saving a Man’s Life

In the early morning of Wednesday, May 2, a truck driver collapsed at Tolko’s Meadow Lake OSB Division site in Saskatchewan. Tolko first responders revived the truck driver after using an automated external defibrillator (AED) and engaging in CPR for 23 minutes until emergency crews arrived at the site.

Special thanks to everyone who helped in the situation including the site’s first responders – Angie Benz, Aaron Fillion, Darren Brad, Kyle Tysoski, Lyndon Shryko, Jason Schenk, Kyla Marsolais, Steve Trask, and Kelly Brander.

“I am very proud of our team here,” states plant manager Trevor Brander. “Our first responders are all volunteers and put in a dedicated effort to learning the skills necessary to save a life. Many have not had to use that training, but in a situation like this, the real value of their efforts is priceless.”

Paramedics visited the site the next morning to meet with the first responders and recognize them for saving a life. The man who collapsed was said to have a nine per cent chance of survival but given the response from Tolko’s staff, his survival chance went up to 90 per cent.
