Tolko Forestry and Sustainability Manager Recognized by ABCFP

March 1, 2011—John Dunford, RPF, Tolko Industries Ltd.’s Manager, Forestry and Sustainability, received the 2010 Professional Forester of the Year award from the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) at a special ceremony Thursday, February 24.
“Congratulations to John on receiving this recognition for his outstanding contributions to the betterment of British Columbia’s and Canada’s sustainable forest management,” said Randy Chan, Vice President, Environment and Forestry, of Tolko. “We are very pleased that the benefit of John’s energy and leadership extends beyond our organization.”
John’s career extends over 30 years, the past 18 having been with Tolko. In his role, John coordinates forestry certification efforts for the company and helps guide Tolko’s environmental and forestry efforts.
John serves as chair to Canada’s CSA Sustainable Forest Management User Group and is one of the founding directors of Programme for the Endorsement of Certification (PEFC) Canada. PEFC Canada acts as the national governing body for PEFC, the global forest certification umbrella organization based in Geneva dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification.
Working with fellow professionals and environmental non-governmental organizations, John helped develop a shared vision and working relationship to sustain the ecological and cultural integrity of the Canadian Boreal Forest through a landmark agreement. John is also a member of the Caribou Progress Board and serves as Vice-Chair of the Forest Practices Board.
Tolko Industries Ltd. is a private, Canadian-owned forest products company based in Vernon, British Columbia. Tolko is a major producer and marketer of lumber, veneer, plywood, oriented strand board, and kraft papers, with manufacturing operations across Western Canada. The Company’s Woodlands operations have received third-party certification of their sustainable forest management systems.
