With the recent announcement of Tolko’s Community Citizen Award winners during National Volunteer Week, the winning candidates received their well-earned time in the spotlight. The award celebrates two employees who have shown outstanding support for their community while reflecting Tolko’s values of respect and integrity. As in other years, there were also a lot of great nominations that deserve some recognition. To keep the momentum going from National Volunteer Week, let’s take a look at other Tolko employees who contribute to the communities in which they live and work.
Randy Hume, High Level
Randy Hume was instrumental in sourcing and promoting the purchasing of 20 portable plexiglass barriers by Tolko for the local elementary school. This donation allowed the students to see the faces of their teachers while staying safe from COVID-19. Randy also sat on the board that was responsible for having the new senior’s residence built in town and played a role in getting Remembrance Day banners created and hung around town.
Amy Vienneau, Vernon Office
Amy Vienneau plays an important role in local youth sports as a volunteer, Treasurer, and a Board member for Greater Vernon Ringette. She’s an important part of the support network and has shown her daughters the importance of giving back to the community. With the additional pressures of the pandemic, many additional volunteer hours to organize and implement safety measures have been required to ensure ringette could go forward.
Jacob Matula, High Prairie
Jacob Matula was nominated by his peers for going above and beyond to help and share his knowledge with others. His skills as a post fire fighter give him a quick-thinking attitude, and he constantly gives his all while asking nothing in return. His work ethic is unmatched and he’s always willing to help others.
Gordon Sitter, Lavington
Gord Sitter is the 1st Vice President of the Greater Vernon Minor Hockey Association and he has been actively engaged with the BC Liberal party for a number of years where he held the position of Riding Association President. He has been involved in other sports and school organizations, volunteered numerous hours to advocate for fair opportunities for local kids in sports, and sat as the Fund Raising Chair for the Sunshine Hills Parent Participation Preschool. Gord has been involved in many fundraising activities for minor hockey and played a big role in the “Raise the Roof” project for the Lavington Community Association’s outdoor skating rink. Additionally, Gord has taken a lead to promote a positive working relationship between Tolko and Okanagan Indian Band. These projects range from fire wood donations for elders to school projects that help youth at risk.
